BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Binghamton High School isn’t just connecting parents to teachers, but to all resources needed for a healthy growing community.

Hundreds attended the school’s Second Annual Open House and Community Fair Wednesday evening.

In the gym was a room full of teachers showcasing what students will be learning with open communication to parents.

In the cafeteria, dozens of local resources, from health to human services and even potential employers.

It’s part of their community school’s model of connecting the school, families and outside resources together.

“We’re providing an opportunity for all of our families to connect with all of the resources that are needed to ensure their child’s success,” says Carla Murray, community schools coordinator for Binghamton High School. “To have all of those resources be available at one time, one location for our families and our students is a key example of what community schools should look like.”

Parent Domenic Emilio says, “they’re offering a lot of things, wanting to encourage people to get here tonight, and to maybe give people some resources that they might not otherwise have on a regular basis. So I think it’s a good thing.”

The school even worked to remove as many barriers as possible that can prevent families from attending these types of events by providing transportation, activities for young children, and dinner.
