AP VOTECAST: How different demographics voted in NY gubernatorial, senate races

(WBNG/AP) –12 News is partnering with the Associated Press for a closer look at the votes on Election Day.

In the race for New York State Governor, AP VoteCast notes both men and women voted mostly for Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D). The results show 61 percent of women voted for Cuomo, while 52 percent of men cast their vote for the incumbent governor.

While Cuomo took the advantage in all age brackets, data shows he did better with younger voters. Voters in the 18-29 and 30-44 age ranges had more than 60 percent in favor of Cuomo. Voters in the 45-64 and 65+ ranges voted 53 and 56 percent respectively for Cuomo.

In the Senate race between Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D) and Chele Farley (R), women voted overwhelmingly for Gillibrand, who has been a big supporter of women’s rights and the #MeToo movement. Gillibrand also had more than 60 percent of the vote in all age brackets and had huge advantages in the non-white vote.
