NORWICH, N.Y. (WBNG) — A father in Chenango County faces more serious charges in the death of his daughter.
Devan Ellsworth, 28, was indicted by a Chenango County Grand Jury on Wednesday on second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges, according to the office of Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride.
Ellsworth was arrested following an incident which led to the death of his one-year-old daughter on August 26, according to prosecutors.
Norwich police says they received a 911 call of a girl with a head injury and who had stopped breathing at a home on Henry Street. The child later died at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Neighbors told 12 News the girl had a twin sister.
Ellsworth was originally charged with second-degree assault, pending results from a medical examiner. He will be arraigned on his new charges at a future date.
