(WBNG) — Several counties in our area voted Republican in the race for New York State Governor, however Governor Andrew Cuomo still won on Election Day.
According to the New York State Board of Elections, 48 percent of Broome County voters opted for Marc Molinaro (R), with 41 percent voting for Gov. Cuomo (D).
The margin was a little wider in Tioga (60 percent-31 percent), Chenango (61 percent-29 percent), and Delaware Counties (59 percent-32 percent).
In the race for the 22nd Congressional District, the part of Broome County which lies in the district, opted for Anthony Brindisi (D), but part of Tioga and Chenango Counties chose incumbent congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R).
Newcomer Antonio Delgado (D) unseated freshman Congressman John Faso (R) in the 19th Congressional District race.
However, the part of Broome County that lies in the district and all of Delaware County voted for John Faso, 58 percent and 55 percent respectively.
Tioga County voted mostly for Rep. Tom Reed (R) in the race for the 23rd Congressional District, with 57 percent of voters selecting Reed compared to 41 percent for challenger Tracy Mitrano (D). Rep. Reed won that race.
