BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — On November 12 Catholic Charities of Broome County will kick off its annual Thanks-For-Giving Turkey Drive.
Each year thousands of families in Broome County rely on the donations to put a Thanksgiving meal on the table. Catholic Charities Executive Director Lori Accardi said this year’s goal is 4,000 turkeys, which would help feed about 10,000 people.
At Catholic charities of Broome County volunteer Tom Collart is already hard at work ahead of Thanksgiving. “The goals are so high there’s so much need in the community so it was exciting to see it come through last year,” he said.
Collart has volunteered for more than ten years now. He said currently the pantry freezers are empty but hopes they’ll be filled with turkeys soon.
Back in 2016, Catholic Charities was hundreds of turkeys short of its goal so the Johnson City Police Department stepped in to make sure enough turkeys were purchased for the families in need.
You can donate to the cause starting on Monday Nov. 12 – Friday Nov. 16. An RV will be parked outside the Vestal Walmart. Other Thanksgiving food donations are accepted in addition to monetary donations.
