Hundreds await Santa’s arrival in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) — The weather was delightful for Johnson City’s annual Holiday Parade as people from all over the Southern Tier gathered to see Santa arrive

“Always great to be here in Johnson City,” said Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, who joined Johnson City Mayor, Greg Deemie in the parade.

“It brings the community out starts the holiday season the holiday spirit that’s out her is phenomenal in regards to this parade,” said Deemie.

Hundreds lined Main Street from Lester Avenue to N. Arch Street. as school bands, local organizations and first responders handed out candy.

12 News handed out candy canes along with a holiday themed news car.

For the Johnson City Police, it was a celebratory night as they showed off a caged Grinch to the crowd.

“With the help of our Elf on the Shelf, JC Elf, who’s up on our roof here we’ve apprehended The Grinch,” said Johnson City Police Chief, Brent Dodge.”

Santa arrived in Johnson City shortly before 8 p.m. to an exciting crowd that bundled up to stay warm.
