Surveillance pictures released in Binghamton bank robbery

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Binghamton Police Department has released surveillance photos of the man wanted in a robbery at the M&T Bank on Robinson Street.

Police say the man walked into the bank around 11:30 a.m. Thursday and jumped over the teller counter, asking for cash.

“With bank personnel backing away, the suspect obtained access to the teller’s cash drawer and physically
removed cash from within and placed it into his clothing pockets,” according to Binghamton Police.

Officers tell us the suspect then jumped back over the counter with an undisclosed amount of cash, went out the front door and ran away.

The man did not show a weapon and no one was hurt, police say.

“The bank was occupied by several bank employees and customers at the time of the robbery incident,” according to police.

Authorities say the whole ordeal lasted about 30 seconds.

Binghamton Police believe the man ran northbound and then got into a vehicle, which was parked nearby.

The suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a navy blue or dark colored sedan, possibly a late model Toyota Camry or Corolla; 4-door sedan.

“As a precautionary safety and security measure, area City Schools (Calvin Coolidge Elementary School and East Middle School) were put under lockout by City School District officials for approximately 45 minutes, during the police response and investigation,” Binghamton Police say.

Members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police helped with the response. They are also assisting in the search for the suspect and gathering evidence in surrounding areas.
