VESTAL (WBNG) — Science and technology are huge parts of our society these days, and as such jobs in these fields are also in high demand. Students in STEM majors at Binghamton University saw this first-hand Thursday, while getting a great opportunity to stick their foot in the door for jobs after school.
One of several job fairs to occur this semester at BU, this event specifically focused on STEM fields. Hundreds of students packed the Student Union with resumes in hand to make as many connections as they could.
Many of the 60 businesses that had representatives there were local technology and engineering companies, hoping to keep some students local. Even if they had to move out of the area for work, school officials were just trying to set the students up for success no matter what. Having plenty of alumni among the employers present was a big part of that mission.
“To see them go from students to full-time employers; who are now on the other side of the table recruiting at today’s event actually; it’s really exciting to see them come back to campus and hire more of our Binghamton population,” said Erin Cody, Associate Director of the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development.
Based on how much everyone was buzzing around, budding professionals were just getting their first of many opportunities to make a difference through science, technology, and engineering, while also giving themselves a career they love for life.
