JEFFERSON COUNTY (WBNG) — An injured bald eagle is recovering and getting ready to be released back into the wild, and it’s all thanks to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The department posted pictures on its Twitter account of the eagle rescued by Environmental Conservation Officer Peter Jackson.

The DEC says the female eagle was on the side of County Route 24 with an apparent broken wing and was unable to fly.

Officer Jackson used a blanket to secure the bird and prevent any further injury.

The DEC says the eagle is doing well and is being treated at the North County Animal Health Center outside of Watertown.
