FENTON (WBNG) — Chenango Valley boys soccer team presented a donation to the Lourdes hospital foundation.
The boys soccer team donated $500 to be split between the Geller Oncology fund and the Sock Out Cancer initiative.
During part of their fall 2018 season, the team wore pink jerseys with the names of people in their lives affected by cancer.
As part of this initiative they asked family and friends to contribute money based on the number of goals scored by the team.
“I think we’ve all been effected at some point by this disease and its very close to our hearts….and it means a lot,” said Brian Chong, a sophomore at Chenango Valley High School.
Head Coach Ted Hoffman said “We always thought that it was a motivation in terms of preparation, they were playing for somebody else other than themselves. they worked hard in practice and the result was we came away with $500 for cancer research”
The effort was entirely player-generated, they are currently bouncing around ideas on how they can grow their donation.
