Vestal officer dedicated to impaired driving enforcement gets NY award

VESTAL (WBNG) — An officer with the Vestal Police Department has received the Stop DWI New York and New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Recognition of Excellence Award.

The department says Officer Steven Will received the honor because of his dedication to keeping impaired drivers off the streets.

According to police, he arrested 87 impaired drivers in 2018 and is on call 24/7 as one of the departments to Drug Recognition Experts.

“In addition to his enforcement efforts, Officer Will is actively involved in educating our students and community members. He presents annually at our Youth and Citizens Academy and is called upon regularly to instruct in the Vestal Central School district,” the police department wrote in a news release.

Officer Will has previously been recognized by STOP-DWI New York for his outstanding efforts, according to the police department.
