VESTAL (WBNG) — Binghamton University says more than 3,600 students will receive degrees in nine separate commencement ceremonies between Wednesday and Sunday this week.
According to BU, more than 20,000 guests are expected to be on campus, stay at hotels and eat at restaurants, generating an estimated $2.4 million in local spending.
With all of those extra people in the area comes traffic congestion.
Binghamton University officials say University Police and Parking Services will conduct traffic control on campus, beginning with the Friday afternoon ceremony and continuing throughout the weekend.
For overflow parking and to help alleviate traffic congestion onto the Vestal Parkway, BU officials say the college has opened the parking garage on campus, free of charge, from 10 a.m. Friday until 9 p.m. Sunday.
