(WBNG) — The Food and Drug Administration has recalled six different inks by the brands Scalp Aesthetics, Dynamic Color, and Color Art. The FDA warns these products may be contaminated with harmful bacteria.

“If it’s contaminated with bacteria it’s probably not good to put into your body,” Josh Ruff, owner of Renaissance Studios in Endicott, said.

Ruff said he’s never heard of the brand Scalp Aesthetics but his studio uses products by Dynamic Ink.

“We do use Dynamic Black, which is one of the inks that was recalled, but we have checked all the batch numbers and none of the lot numbers of the bottles we have are affected,” Ruff said.

While recalls often cause concern, Ruff said they are necessary.

“I think it’s good there’s a system there to keep consumers safe. It’s something that they shouldn’t have to worry about when they get a tattoo done, is some kind of infection happening from the materials used,” Ruff said.

Ruff said his tattoo studio uses top-of-the-line products.

“We buy from legit suppliers so we know we’re getting good product. We don’t buy garbage ink off eBay or anything like that. We just buy through professional tattoo suppliers,” Ruff said.
