Police say pedestrian was killed by an impaired driver with child passengers

2:30 p.m. UPDATE

The pedestrian struck by a car on Friday evening near the Unadilla Valley Sports Center has died.  Jonathan Mayzak, age 20, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday shortly after 1:30 p.m.

The investigation is continuing with the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and State Police in Norwich. The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office will be consulted at the conclusion of the investigation as to whether additional charges are warranted.

CHENANGO COUNTY (WBNG) —  New York State Police at Oneonta say they arrested a man on Friday night after he struck and seriously injured a pedestrian while on State Route 8 in the Town of Columbus, while driving with two children in the car

In a press release, New York State Police say Edward D. Burnett of Utica was arrested following a crash where he struck and seriously injured a pedestrian on State Route 8 in the Town of Columbus.

Troopers responded to a dispatch at approximately 8:53 p.m. Friday.

The pedestrian was found unconscious and was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in critical condition.

Burnett has been charged with the felonies of Driving While Ability Impaired with child 15 or under as passenger (two counts) and Vehicular Assault in the second degree.
