(WBNG) — Democratic New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced Wednesday night she is dropping out of the 2020 presidential race.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll shows the senator, along with other candidates, are at the bottom of the field.

The democrat was known for focusing her candidacy on issues of women’s equality.

Senator Gillibrand tweeted shortly after 5:30 p.m., saying in part, “I am so proud of this team and what we’ve accomplished. But I think it’s important to know how you can best serve.”
