El Nuevo Diario: Authorities deny extradition of Orlando Tercero

(WBNG) — According to Nicaraguan news, authorities have denied the extradition request for Orlando Tercero, accused of killing a fellow Binghamton University student.

Police say 22-year-old Haley Anderson, a nursing student, was found murdered at an off-campus home on March 9, 2018. Suspect Orlando Tercero fled to Nicaragua shortly after her murder. Tercero has since been in a Nicaraguan jail for over a year.

According to the translation of a Nicaraguan news source El Nuevo Diario, Nicaraguan authorities have denied a request for extradition of Orlando Enrique Tercero Moreno by the U.S. Government.

12 News reached out the the Broome County District Attorney’s Office about the reports. In a statement, the District Attorney’s Office said, “We’re continuing to work with the Department of State, Department of Justice, and Senator Schumer’s Office, with the defendant returning to Broome County to face justice as our desired outcome. The process is ongoing and we cannot comment further at this time.”
