VESTAL (WBNG) — The Vestal Fire Department hosted its annual fire expo, showcasing equipment from different agencies.

Fire trucks, ambulances and state police cars were just a few of the items on display. Children were able to practice fire safety and learn how to call 911.

To top it all off, firefighters showed children how they rescue people from car accidents. Organizers of the event say it’s always a good idea to be knowledgeable about fire safety and prevention.

“Sometimes in your busy days, kids are back in school, you’re going to soccer practice, so you put fire prevention in the back of your mind,” said Ken Fortier, the Vestal Fire Department prevention officer.

“We’re trying to bring that back, knowing to check your smoke detectors, and knowing what to do if there is an incident in your house,” he said.
