Authorities release name of woman fatally shot by police

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Relatives say a Pennsylvania woman who was shot and killed by police after she pointed a gun at officers had suffered from mental health issues.

Nina Adams was shot Wednesday afternoon in Greensburg. Authorities say the 47-year-old woman fired shots while standing in the road near her home and then walked back to the house, where she was soon confronted by police.

Authorities say Adams, armed with a handgun, walked onto her porch. One officer fired a bean bag at her in an unsuccessful bid to disable her, and another officer soon shot Adams in the torso and shoulder.

Adams was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.

The officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in police-involved shootings.
