TOWN OF CHENANGO (WBNG) — A buddy bench was recently installed at Chenango Bridge Elementary School after local girl scouts decided their school needed one.

“If you were lonely and you wanted somebody to play with, you could go over there and ask them, ‘Hey do you want to be friends?'” said Girl Scout Courtney McCabe.

The buddy bench at their old school brought them fond memories.

“It actually helped me make one of my best friends because I was sitting there and then she came over and helped me and everything,” said McCabe.

It even supported many of them through hard times.

“My friends weren’t being very nice and that was a good way to go over there and I met a bunch of new people who they were like, ‘Are you okay? You can hang out with us,’” said Samantha Perney.

Speaking to students with access to the new bench, Sydney Shelley said, “Sometimes I get lonely so I come here and sit and wait, most of the time a lot of people are here.”

Adding, “It makes me feel happy because then I know actually I have someone to play with.”
