VESTAL (WBNG) — At the Family Life Church in Vestal, church members have organized a drive to deliver 300 Thanksgiving meals to families in the Union-Endicott area.
The group has already collected almost all of the turkeys it needs, but says they are still looking for donations of traditional holiday sides such as stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beans.
The pastor of the church says that his faith is the compelling reason behind his involvement in the drive.
“The entirety of the Christian faith is about giving, and it’s not about getting, it’s not about receiving. It’s about taking that which God gave us and giving to others,” said Joe Coudriet, who helped start the church more than seven and a half years ago.
Coudriet says every holiday season they try to do something to help out the needy in their community, whether it be collecting coats during Christmas or providing presents for the church’s children members.
The group is collecting donations until November 16th, and the meals will be delivered the following day, Saturday November 17th. The group is also accepting cash donations in lieu of goods.
