2:25 P.M. UPDATE:

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WBNG) — We’re learning more about two music festivals honoring the 50th anniversary of Woodstock ’69 that will be held on the same three days in August, about 150 miles apart.

A news conference was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Watkins Glen International following an announcement earlier in the day that Woodstock 1969’s co-producer and co-founder Michael Lang would be putting on a big celebration at the venue this summer.

WGI Director of Public Relations Chris Banker told the media that organizers expect between 50,000 and 100,000 festival-goers at the August 16 through August 18 event.

The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, a concert venue built on the original Woodstock site, announced two weeks ago that it will host a 50th anniversary music festival over those same three days.

According to the website for Bethel Woods, that venue seats 15,000 people.

“Having that set capacity of seating there, I think he [Lang] kind of wanted to bring it back to, you know, more of a grassroots-type festival feel and that’s exactly what we have here at The Glen,” Banker said.

WGI says tickets will go on sale in February. Neither venue has released a concert lineup.

A major event in the Southern Tier, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Open, is also scheduled to take place that weekend and will feature a performance by Keith Urban.
