1:55 P.M. UPDATE:

A Binghamton City School District spokesperson tells 12 News that two of its schools were placed on lockout while police investigate an incident on Robinson Street.

The spokesperson said Calvin Coolidge Elementary School and East Middle School were placed on lockout, meaning that nobody was allowed in or out, for about 45 minutes on Thursday.

The move came at the direction of Binghamton Police Department, the spokesperson says, while police were pursuing a suspect in an armed robbery on Robinson Street.

Police have not confirmed if a heavy police presence just before noon at the M&T Bank on Robinson Street was indeed because of an attempted armed robbery.

The bank has been surrounded by police tape since before noon.

Parents were notified of the situation through an automated call, the spokesperson added, and also that the district was in close communication with Broome County Communications Center during the lockout.
