BINGHAMTON (WBNG) –Dozens of local wineries set up shop for the third annual Binghamton wine and chocolate festival on Saturday.
Alongside the wine, vendors sold everything from cheese and chocolate to beef jerky.
Organizers say the best part of the event is how it supports local businesses.
Galaxy Events Manager Brittney Christie sets up events like Saturday’s across the state.
She brings along a team of New York wineries and adds in local businesses specific to each festival.
She says, “The ability to be able to drive these people back to their business after this event is over is really what’s most important.”
Manager Michelle McFarland is one of those business owners. Her family runs Ashley Lynn Winery in Waterloo, New York and she says local support is key.
“We’re all family owned, our winery is family owned and you’re supporting us and you’re feeding our families,” said McFarland.
Festival customers are on board with the local initiative.
Pennsylvania resident Faith Buckeley says,”It’s great to know that they’re all locally made and locally distributed.”
Organizers say they intent to host another festival next year.
