TOWN OF FENTON (WBNG) — Saturday was the opening day of the youth hockey tournament at the Binghamton Pond Festival.
The event has grown in size each of the past four years. Organizers say this year, more than 20 teams from across the area had the opportunity to play hockey outdoors.
The Binghamton Devils offered free tickets to Saturday night’s game to any of the children who participated. Team staff said they were more than happy to do their part in growing the game locally.
“It’s a community event, fun for the kids with the pond hockey, something you know we’ve worked all year to team up with them on. to be here, get out in the community, make them more interested in hockey so they can say, hey, the Devils are supporting us too,” said John Reilly, the group sales manager for the team.
The youth tournament will continue on Sunday. In the following weeks, there will also be an adult tournament.
In addition to the adult tournament, on January 27th, there will be an obstacle and trail run at Chenango Valley State Park.
