SPENCER (WBNG) — People traveled to Spencer from all around the state Saturday for the annual Sportsman Show.
Thousands are expected to attend the two day event held as a fundraiser for the Spencer Van Etten High School outdoorsman’s club.
“To raise some money, the kids were tired of selling candy bars and that sort of thing,” club adviser Doug Thornton said. “We decided it would be a neat thing to do to get people to come see us instead of getting the kids out to see these different places.”
125 vendors and non-profits filled all three floors of the high school. The money raised is used for a trip to one of the largest outdoors shows in the country.
Spencer is one of the most successful shows for vendors like Cannonball Runner Charters despite not being the largest of the year.
“This whole area down here, everyone is into the outdoors, so they want to see stuff for the outdoors, they want to go to the outdoors,” owner Ed Monette said. “You can get into some of the metropolitan areas, well a lot of those people don’t go to the outdoors, so outdoor shows don’t attract too many people.”
This year’s show features a bunny display and falcon exhibit.
