MONDAY UPDATE:

(WBNG) — Two people face charges following a car chase that stemmed from a report of someone stealing from the Johnson City Walmart.

Johnson City police tell 12 News they received the report of a vehicle leaving the parking lot of the store Sunday evening after a theft from the store.

Officers say the vehicle was driven by 39-year-old Hayes Cutting of Bainbridge.

Those who responded say the vehicle would not pull over as officers tried to stop it as it left the Walmart parking lot and continued on to Airport Road.

Police say Cutting continued continued north onto Airport Road and eventually lost control on Barrier Road.

After crashing, officers say Cutting and his passenger, 35-year-old Amanda Vanhouten, ran into the woods but were caught shortly afterward by Johnson City officers and Broome County Sheriff’s deputies.

Cutting and Vanhouten are both charged with felony grand larceny and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

Authorities also say Vanhouten faces four additional misdemeanor counts of drug possession, while Cutting is charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance. Officers say Cutting was found with heroin at the scene with intent to sell.

Cutting was also handed multiple vehicle and traffic violations, authorities say.

Police have not said what was allegedly stolen from Walmart.
