Binghamton (WBNG) — Young children in our area will soon have the chance to experience a unique arts exhibit.

It’s called Arts Adventure and it will provide an exciting and educational art, theater, and musical experience for children grades K-5. Children and their families will be treated to exhibits put on by the Binghamton Philharmonic, the Goodwill Theatre, Tri-Cities Opera, and Roberson Museum and Science Center.

The event will be free to attend, a move that organizers say is meant to provide local families easier access to the local art and theater scene.

“It’s not always easy for them to go a museum or an opera, an orchestra performance or even a play. So, it’s important to us as organizations who are collaborating on this project to reduce one of the barriers, which is cost, to help people get more involved with their kids and for kids to be more involved in the arts,” said Roberson’s Executive Director Michael Grasso.

Arts Adventure will be held at Roberson Museum and Science Center on March 24 at 12 p.m., with each organization holding its own unique presentations throughout the day.

The Binghamton Philharmonic will perform an interactive orchestral fairy tale called Peter and the Wolf for woodwind quintet. After the performance, kids will be able to explore the instruments.

Goodwill Theatre’s Schorr Family Firehouse Stage will be putting on a musical called The Crimson Pirates, a story that the kids help to write. They also will be joined by performer Will Stafford, who will demonstrate his unicycling and juggling skills.

The Tri-Cities Opera will perform Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears, a play by John Davies set to the music of Mozart and Offenbach. Children will be treated to a Q&A with the cast following the performance.

Roberson will offer various hands-on activities themed after the other performances at the event. They will also treat the children to a musical show in the planetarium.

The free event is made possible thanks to a donation from the Klee Foundation.
