Vermont murder suspect believed to have traveled through upstate NY

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WBNG) — Federal authorities say they are looking for a man who they think traveled through upstate New York after murdering a woman.

According to the United States Marshal Service, the partner of Leroy Headley was found shot to death in the couple’s apartment in South Burlington, Vermont in May 2018. Officials say his partner is the mother of Headley’s two children.

Headley is wanted on murder and sexual assault of a child, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution charges.

U.S. Marshals believe Headley has at least come through upstate NY following the murder. They also note Headley is originally from Jamaica and has ties in the United States, Canada, and Jamaica.

Authorities also think Headley could be living under an alias, may have shaved his head or otherwise changed his appearance, and should be considered armed and dangerous.

The U.S. Marshals are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to Headley’s arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the U.S. Marshal Service at (202) 307-9100. Tips can also be delivered to the U.S. Marshal Service by calling 1-877-WANTED-2 (1-877-926-8332) or by sending an email to usms.wanted@usdoj.gov.
