(CNN) — The Federal Drug Administration is cracking down on dietary supplements that are marketed as “cures, “treatments,” or preventatives for serious illnesses, such Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and cancer.

FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb says they will be rolling out some new ways to alert you about safety issues with a product.

Dietary supplements are not reviewed by the FDA before they hit the shelves, but the agency will get involved if they are deemed unsafe or carry misleading claims.
