ENDICOTT (WBNG) — Seafood dinners were served across the country on the first Friday of Lent and the Southern Tier was no different.
Friday evening Saint Anthony’s of Padua in Endicott continued the tradition. The main meatless entree was fried or baked haddock. Many dined inside or picked up food in the drive thru line, which had an active line there throughout the night.
Father Jim Serowik has been leading these dinners for more than a decade, and loves how the dinners bring the community together.
“It’s all about family here at St. Anthony’s,” said Serowik.
Dozens of volunteers, from adults to local students, were either making the meals since Thursday morning or serving them. The menu consisted of pierogies, vegetables, mashed potatoes, rolls, and homemade desserts.
If you missed it Friday night, St. Anthony’s of Padua will continue the dinners throughout Lent. Haddock meals are $10 for adults and a reduced rate for children. Kids fours year old or younger are free. Seafood meals, which includes clams and shrimp, cost $12.
All the money goes back to the church.
