UTICA (WBNG/WKTV) — According to the Utica Fire Department, a firefighter sustained minor injuries after slipping on ice while battling a fire at Remet Corporation Friday morning.
Around 7:20 a.m., crews were dispatched to 301 Turner St. to investigate an automatic fire alarm at the manufacturing plant.
The Utica Fire Department says the blaze was upgraded to a structure fire following a phone call from within the plant that indicated there was a fire in the building.
The fire department says heavy smoke could be seen coming from the rear of the building.
According to WKTV, fire officials were on the scene into the evening hours as they tried to extinguish hot spots.
The Frankfort Center Fire Department, which was also at the scene, says the rear portion of the building has been “completely destroyed.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
