BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Patients and healthcare professionals got the opportunity to learn about recent advances to help treat diabetes on Tuesday.

It was all part of the diabetes education fair held by Lourdes Hospital.

Demonstrations displayed the newest medications, insulin, and glucose meters on the market.

Those who attended were also able to learn about nutrition and other lifestyle changes that medical professionals say can go a long way.

Staff at Lourdes say holding fairs like this one is important, because people should know their options.

“If you’re educated on the topic then obviously you can void the complications if you’re diagnosed with diabetes and that’s really essential for people,” said Diabetes Center Program Director Sheryl Dalton.

The fair also celebrated diabetes alert day, a day meant to help people learn the signs and symptoms of diabetes.
