BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell is warning residents to be aware of a deadly batch of cocaine laced with fentanyl that has been found in Broome County.

His office says the drug was found as a result of the investigation into deadly fentanyl, which was launched after Broome County Executive Jason Garnar declared a state of emergency on Wednesday.

“The public is asked to be alert of this deadly batch of cocaine, and contact law enforcement, as always, with any information,” Cornwell’s office wrote in a news release.

Cornwell says fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more powerful than morphine, and when combined with other drugs, including cocaine, becomes even more deadly.
