BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — With Major League Baseball officially kicking off the 2019 season Thursday afternoon, 12 News paid a visit to NYSEG Stadium just two weeks before the Binghamton Rumble Ponies’ home-opener.
Crews were taking advantage of the beautiful weather Thursday to work on laying down new grass across the field.
The installation of two brand new state-of-the-art video boards has been completed, and most of the new seats are in place.
Officials with the Rumble Ponies say that baseball season starting up is one of the best signs that spring is just around the corner.
“Once opening day hits, you know that spring is right around the corner. Of course we do live in Binghamton here. So, if we could be playing baseball today it’d be wonderful, but we’ll see what the weather looks like on April 11th. Either way, we’re gonna play ball,” said Rumble Ponies Managing Director John Bayne.
The Rumble Ponies will kick off their season on the road against the New Hampshire Fishercats on April 4.
The home-opener, and unveiling of the new and improved NYSEG Stadium, is slated for April 11, when the Rumble Ponies face off against the Erie Seawolves.
