Troopers to ease visitor line congestion at NY Capitol

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York troopers are taking steps to cut down on wait times to visit the state Capitol on busy session days.

State police say they will add security checkpoint lines and provide additional staff on days when a lot of visitors are expected. The changes will take place April 29, when the state Legislature returns from break.

Long lines at the Capitol’s security check point are a common sight on session days. Police say up to 7,000 people a day can visit the Capitol and surrounding buildings when the state Legislature is in session.

Visitors to the Capitol are required to place electronics, belts, loose change and jackets in plastic bins before being screened by a metal detector
