BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Republican Broome County District Attorney candidate Paul Battisti was endorsed by a police organization on Monday.
The New York State Union of Police Association endorsed him for the Republican primary election.
Battisti says he’s a good fit for the next Broome County DA.
“My competitor is in that office,” he said. “He’s been in that office. It’s not working. He has been an individual who has sat in that office day in and day out. He hasn’t been out in the community. He hasn’t worked with the community. He hasn’t been out there. I as an individual am very diverse. I bring a lot of different skills to the table. I bring great leadership. I have the ability to bring people together and I think endorsements like this, speak volumes.”
In response to Battisti’s comments, 12 News also reached out to Republican Broome County District Attorney Candidate Michael Korchak.
“It sort of deflects the issues of the case, endorsements are nice, letters are nice, but that doesn’t make you qualified for district attorney,” Korchak said. “It’s years of experience to be able to evaluate the case, look at a case and decide what should be plea bargained and what shouldn’t”.
12 News also reached out to Democratic candidate Debra Gelson for comment. We have yet to hear back.
The primary election will be held on June 25.
