TOWN OF NICHOLS (WBNG) — Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Friday that renames a portion of Route 17 in honor of deceased New York State Department of Transportation Employee Dennis “Matt” Howe.
The governor’s office says a portion of the state route in the town of Nichols will now be known as the “Dennis ‘Matt’ Howe Highway.”
Howe was working when a tractor-trailer struck his vehicle on Route 17 in Tioga County in March 2019.
He was airlifted to a hospital and died shortly later.
Governor Cuomo said Howe was a “dedicated New York State employee and beloved husband, father, son, and colleague.”
