ENDWELL (WBNG) — Kevin Ludwig is getting ready to face the American Idol judges, but he says it was the journey leading up to this moment that was the real challenge.
Endwell native, Kevin Ludwig, has been playing in pubs and venues around the Southern Tier since he was 14 years old.
Now at the age of 28, Ludwig has his eyes on a bigger prize: American Idol.
“I guess I just always wanted to do it deep down and I always watched the show and thought man…’I feel like I can do that, you know?'” said Ludwig. “It just kind of made sense for me at this point.”
Well known by the community for his performances, Ludwig has made a name for himself in the Southern Tier. He even opened up for bigger names like Drake White in Syracuse.
As he heads to an even bigger stage, Ludwig reflects on how he overcame a much more difficult challenge than the auditions.
“I developed a tumor in my neck,” said Ludwig. “It was benign. I mean I’m grateful for that , but it was definitely a very low point in my life.”
Struggling with the pain in his neck, even losing sensation in his left arm following his surgery, Kevin wasn’t sure what the outcome would be, saying, “there were so many things that were going through my head as far as you know…am I going to be the same musician that I was?”
After regaining his strength and getting back into the rhythm of his own music, Kevin knew he always wanted more. He says he thanks his family and the community for their endless support.
“They’ve all been there from day one to support me and it makes me want to push harder, makes me want to make them proud,” Ludwig.
Kevin Ludwig auditions officially for American Idol in front of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan this October.
