Sheriff: Two arrested after report of a stolen vehicle

(WBNG) — The Broome County Sheriff’s Office says two people were arrested following a report of a possible stolen vehicle at 4116 Rt. 26 on August 16.

The sheriff’s office says 50-year-old MaryJo Gana and 25-year-old Luke Gana, both of Whitney Point, were arrested following the investigation.

Authorities say deputies were dispatched to 4116 Rt. 26 for a report of a “suspicious incident” and possible stolen vehicle from Forest City, Pennsylvania.

The sheriff’s office says MaryJo Gana tried to flee the scene in the vehicle wen deputies arrived.

Authorities say when deputies finally caught up with the vehicle, MaryJo Gana resisted arrest when they tried to get her into custody.  They also said her son attempted to prevent deputies from arresting her.

According to the sheriff’s office, MaryJo Gana had a warrant for Robbery of a Motor Vehicle out of Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania and was in possession of methamphetamine.

The sheriff’s office says both were taken into custody.

MaryJo Gana has been charged with the following:

  • resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor
  • obstructing governmental administration in the 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor

Luke Gana has been charged with the following:

  • resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office says MaryJo and Luke Gana were taken to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility where they await Central Arraignment before a magistrate.
