State police investigating overnight shooting in Newfield, request public’s assistance

NEWFIELD, N.Y. (WBNG) — The New York State Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance with their investigation into a shooting.

State police say the shooting occurred early morning in the parking lot of an apartment house on Shaffer Road in the town of Newfield.  12 News reached out to state police to confirm what day the shooting occurred, and is waiting to hear back.

Police say troopers responded to a report of shots fired and discovered one male was shot in his back.  They say he transferred to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment and later transported to Upstate University Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities say his injury in non-life threatening.

Police say that they are looking for a dark colored SUV that was seen leaving the area “moments” after the shooting occurred.  They noted the SUV traveled south down Shaffer Road.

Authorities ask that anyone with information regarding the shooting to call State Police in Ithaca at 607-347-4440.
