BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — As Labor Day weekend quickly approaches, many people across the Southern Tier are gearing up for the holiday festivities. However, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office is reminding you to do so responsibly.
Broome County deputies, with the assistance of New York State Troopers and other police agencies, will be out in force for the holiday weekend cracking down on drunk and impaired drivers.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office says it wants everyone to have a good time this weekend, but at the end of the day, their number one priority is making sure everyone gets home safe.
“Labor Day signals the end of summer and we know that people like to celebrate that. So, we want people to go out and have a nice time here in our community. We just simply ask that they have a plan in place,” explained Captain Kate Newcomb.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office recommends using one of the many options available to avoid driving while impaired, such as Uber, Lyft, or a conventional taxi. They also say when all else fails, call a friend.
