Ithaca Police: Body found floating in Six Mile Creek

(WBNG) — Ithaca Police have identified the victim as 31-year-old Wendi Owens from Enfield.

Officials say the cause of Owen’s death is still under investigation.

ITHACA (WBNG) –  The Ithaca Police Department says a body was found floating in Six Mile Creek near Agway Saturday afternoon.

Police responded to reports of a body found shortly after 5 p.m.

Officers say the body was discovered by kayakers who were paddling through the channel behind the railroad bridge off of Fulton Street.

Officials say the body was removed from the water and was determined to be a female between 25 and 35 years of age.

Ithaca police say the female was believed to be in the water for a few hours or less prior to her discovery.

The department says the identity of the victim will be withheld until notification of next of kin.

Officials are still investigating what caused her death.
