Local Firefighter dies in the line of duty

HOMER (WBNG) – Members of the town of Homer’s Fire Department are in mourning after losing one of their own.

Firefighter Robert Bush was taking part in a training exercise recently when all of a sudden he became ill. His fellow first responders immediately gave him medical assistance and then rushed him to a local hospital where he later passed away.

In a Facebook post, Homer Fire Chief Mahlon Irish, Jr. called it, “the worst case scenario.”

Bush will have a short grave-side service at the Truxton Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Homer Fire Department will provide a color guard at the cemetery. Bush’s remains will be transported to the cemetery on Engine 501.

The fire department is not releasing the cause of death yet.
