BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Boho Comedy Club is opening at the Double Tree Hotel in Binghamton, but the road to creating the club, has been difficult.

Just a few months before the club was set to open, an instrumental founder in the funding and design of the club, Giordi DeAngelo, suddenly passed away at the age of 27.

“He was a guy just full of energy, and had a million ideas, this was just one of them. The honest truth behind this is just to bring comedy to Binghamton, to have a permanent space where people can come see comedy all the time,” said Bill Lake, co-owner of the club.

The club plans on bringing in comedians from both the local area and New York City to give you a good laugh.

“There’s always intangible factors that make the show less than it could be, lighting, sound, people talking. We always thought, what if we had our own space, if Binghamton had a comedy club,” said Lake.

On it’s first night open, the club has sold out for two shows. Lake says, this is what Giordi would have wanted, to see people laughing and have a good time.

“I think if Giordi saw the space tonight, it may not be as elaborate and busy and crazy as he wanted it to be, because he had a million ideas on how he wanted it to look. It’s somewhere in between, but I think he’d be happy that it’s finished and so many people are coming out. Yeah, I hope he’s watching,” said Lake.
