Tebow shares special bond with Trenton’s bat boy

TRENTON, N.J. (WBNG) — Binghamton Rumble Ponies outfielder Tim Tebow shares a special bond with the Trenton Thunder’s bat boy.

Tommy Smith, who has special needs, is known around ARM & HAMMER Park as "Tommy the Bat Boy," and he’s a big fan of Tebow.

Earlier this season, when Binghamton visited Trenton, Tebow convinced Smith to be the Rumble Ponies bat boy for one game.

On Wednesday, 12 Sports asked Tebow about his relationship with Smith and how excited he is to see him again at the All-Star Game.

"Tommy’s awesome," said Tebow with a big smile. "He’s so cool. Good thing today I didn’t need to convince him to be on our side because when we were on the away side, I needed to talk him into being our bat boy. Now he’s just our bat boy the whole game, so we’re good."

The Thunder and Rumble Ponies are both in the Eastern Division of the Eastern League, so that’s why no convincing was needed.
