VESTAL (WBNG) — The Binghamton women’s basketball team defeated Division-II the University of the Charleston, 69-62, Tuesday night inside the Events Center in the Bearcats’ home opener. BU held off a late push by Charleston, aided by a couple of turnovers, cutting the Bearcats’ lead to three in the fourth quarter.

Rebecca Carmody and Carly Boland helped extend the lead to seven before Binghamton iced the game at the free throw line.

Despite 77 wins as the head coach at Weber State, Ord told 12 Sports after the game, her first victory with the Bearcats felt a little different.

“It felt extra special (Tuesday night),” said Binghamton head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord. “It really did, because this group has been working so hard and they are buying in and they are believing in the system. It’s just such a great group, so I’m so happy for them for our first win.”

The Binghamton women’s basketball team is back on the floor Friday, November 10 inside the Events Center against rival Cornell. Game starts at 5:30 p.m.
