Binghamton knocks off Stony Brook in upset of the season

LONG ISLAND (WBNG) – In the first round of the America East Tournament, Binghamton completed the upset of the America East season knocking off Stony Brook 78-72. Seven seeded teams came into the game just 2-31 all time against two seeds.

The Bearcats outscored Stony Brook 43-25 in the first half. America East rookie of the year, Sam Sessoms, led the way with 26 points. Binghamton has now won four straight road games.

J.C. Show and Caleb Stewart had 19 and 16 points respectively. The Bearcats are in the semifinals for the first time since 2009 and it’s their first playoff win since 2012.

Final score: Stony Brook (24-7, 12-4) – 72, Binghamton (10-22, 6-11) – 78

Binghamton will play in the America East quarterfinals against one seeded Vermont on Tuesday. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
