BINGHAMTON (WBNG) – On Monday, the Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner was held at the Doubletree by Hilton. This marks the fifth year of the hall of fame in Binghamton.

A dozen members were inducted across eight different sports. This year’s featured speaker was former Yankees manager Joe Girardi. Girardi managed the Yankees to a World Series title in 2009, spending 9 years as skipper. As a player he spent four seasons with New York helping the team capture three championships in the 90’s.

As for this year’s inductees, the headliner was Arthur Jones, the former Union-Endicott football player, who went on to the NFL where he won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens. Another inductee is Margo Walsh Riddle who played basketball at Maine-Endwell and Duke.

‘Well it is just awesome to be recognized, it is such a surprise and an honor after all these years and the opportunities I was given at Maine-Endwell as a young athlete were just tremendous , fantastic coaches and teammates back in the 70’s it was just a really wonderful time,” said Margo Walsh Riddle.

“You know it is quite an honor, you know I think athletes play the sport and coaches coach not for the honor but because of their love but it is good that other people recognize the job they have done,” said Joe Girardi.
