BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — In front of a sold out crowd at NYSEG Stadium, the Rumble Ponies fell to the Altoona Curve, 9-8 on “Baseball in Education” Day.

The Ponies jumped on the Curve in the first inning. Barrett Barnes opened scoring with a two-run double, followed by a Patrick Mazeika three-run home run to make it 5-0.

On the mound, it was Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, Harol Gonzalez. Jason Delay hit a two-run homer off him in the second, followed by solo home runs from Logan Hill and Hunter Owen in the sixth. The Curve added more in the seventh, scoring three runs off the Rumble Ponies bullpen.

Gonzalez: 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Down 9-6 in the 9th, Mazeika brought the team within one run after a two-run double. With the bases loaded with one out, Mike Paez would ground into a double play to end the game. Mazeika finished the day with a career-high 6 RBI, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.

Final score:

Rumble Ponies – 8 (21-13), Curve – 9 (19-19)

“You know today we just didn’t pitch well, left some mistakes out over the plate,” said manager Kevin Boles. “Obviously with the lineup they have, if you make mistakes out over the plate, they’re gonna touch it. But our guys, they compete well. I love the way they go about their business.”

The Rumble Ponies hit the road for seven games, beginning with a series in Trenton Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
