ENDICOTT (WBNG) – Day one of the DICK’s Open was run by Doug Barron and Miguel Angel Jimenez. The qualifier and long time veteran lead the tournament at -7 after day one.

Jimenez birdied 17 and finished with a par on 18 to finish the day tied at the top of the leaderboard. He has won 21 times on the European Tour and has been a member of two victorious Ryder Cup teams.

“The main thing is the way you’re feeling on the golf course, and I’ve been feeling good and hitting well, and done everything I need to do heading into the weekend, keeping the same mood and hitting the same shots and try to win the tournament,” said Miguel Angel Jimenez

Barron last played at En-Joie in 2006, the last year of the B.C. Open. Barron turned 50 in July and has since joined the Tour Champions. First, he had to qualify earlier this week at Lake of Hiawatha. Barron did just that and took day one of the tournament by storm.

“I thought teeing off that six, seven, eight under is a good round. I’ve been around this course 32 times in tournament rounds, and many practice rounds here while I was on tour, so I like the place it reminds me of the two courses I grew up playing at home. I’ve always played good here, had some good finishes here,” said Doug Barron.

World Golf Hall of Fame member, Bernhard Langer, finished -4 on the day and in a tie for eighth place.

“It was a good round, very good early on then had a great second shot on eleven and I holed my seven iron on a par four and birdied the next one to go six under so I really had it going through twelve and then ran into two bogeys and finished four under,” said Bernhard Langer.
